From the narrative to the procedure
The Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) is a projective technique in which the patient builds a narrative from cards of ambiguous content. What is analyzed is not only what they tell, but how they organize what they tell.
Each narrative reveals discursive elaboration procedures: how the material unfolds, what is emphasized, what is avoided and what is left out. These procedures are identified one by one and grouped into categories and series.
That identification and its scoring are carried out by a professional trained in administering and interpreting the TAT. Ríopsi organizes the work: it records the narratives, holds the classification, and returns frequencies and summaries on which the psychologist builds their hypotheses.
